The Bagpipes

The Geoffrey Street Piper is playing bagpipe drones from R. G. (Bob) Hardie circa 1976. They were hand picked by Bob exclusively for Michael when he was playing in Bob’s band (Muirhead and Sons) and living in Glasgow in the summer of 1976.

The sheepskin bag is made by James Begg of Glasgow. The chanter is a MC2 McCallum solo blackwood chanter circa 2012, and given to Michael by Jim McGillivrary as a gift for being his best man at his wedding.

The sound on the recording is a result of feedback provided by Jim prior to the recording session, and Ed Neigh who was present at the first of five studio recording sessions.

Tuning of all the instruments to the bagpipe was achieved by our master engineer Brian Hewson.
